Young Fiction Writer of the Year 2010 Competition Winners meet with David Cameron

15 October 2010

Fiction Feast’s “Young Fiction Writer of the Year” competition winners were welcomed to Number 10 Downing Street on Tuesday by Prime Minister David Cameron.

The competition attracted over 3,500 young writers aged eight to 18, nearly double the amount of entrants compared to last year’s competition. The winners and runners-up met David Cameron and competition judge Anthony Horowitz, the UK's most successful male children's author. CBBC’s Newsround team were also there to cover the presentations and interview some of our young winners and Anthony Horowitz.

Mr Cameron congratulated the winners and runners up on their fantastic achievements.

‘It takes a lot to risk writing your own story and sending it to a magazine,’ he said. As a dad I love reading to my kids and we need more writers like you!’

‘Thank you to Take a Break for doing an amazing job in encouraging young people to write and be creative.’

The winning stories will be featured in a special edition of Take a Break's Fiction Feast on sale 4 November.
